We were honored to see Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Dalibor Sames take the stage at Summit at Sea for a fascinating conversation about the future of ibogaine research and its potential role in medicine.
Dr. Hyman, a pioneer in functional medicine, and Dr. Sames, a Columbia University chemist who has spent nearly three decades studying ibogaine, both recently underwent ibogaine treatment at Beond, bringing a unique blend of scientific expertise and personal experience to the discussion.
Together, they explored why ibogaine may represent an entirely new way of thinking about healing – one that extends beyond the traditional “one drug, one target” model and into a more systems-based understanding of the brain and body.
As Dr. Sames beautifully described it, “Ibogaine should not really be called a drug. It’s too complex, too sophisticated… I think of it as a healing algorithm.”
We’re deeply grateful to Summit for creating space for conversations like these, and to Dr. Hyman and Dr. Sames for their years of research, their commitment to education, and their honesty and authenticity in sharing both the science and their personal experiences.
This talk was recorded at Summit At Sea in April 2026.
A plant from the forests of West Africa may hold the key to rewiring the brain. Dr. Dalibor Sames brings the science of how iboga alkaloids reprogram synaptic function to treat addiction, PTSD and neurological disorders, while Dr. Mark Hyman translates cutting-edge research into real strategies for cognition, performance and emotional wellbeing. Together they make the case that this ancient plant might just be the future of mental health.
